Our first ever A Taste of Chocolates was a HUGE sucess. We raised around $400. We even did so well that we sold out! We thank everyone so much for making treats, and we thank Sally at the Senior Center for allowing us to use the building. With out all of our volunteers we could not do the things we do for our great Library.

Our 2nd annual BBQ was another great fundraiser. We raised $426.00. Thank you to Gene who cooked our meat (he always does a great job) and thank you to everyone who cooked, made desserts, passed out flyers, came to eat, and just for supporting the Library. Our Library could not be as great as it is without the support of our great community.

2009 Annual Meeting
June 30th marked the close of our 5th year of operation; and we had another great year! The annual reports are in The process of being audited, and copies will soon be available at the library. Here is how we did:

Membership: $920.00
Cash Donations: $961.94
Non-Cash Donations: $2991.50
Fundraising: $5545.61

Over 98.99% of the funds raised above,
After expenses were put right back into the library or directly benefit the library.

Sno Cone Maker
With last years success on selling sno cones at a couple different events we decided to purchase a sno cone maker. We already started making money during this year’s street dance. The dance didn’t turn out the way we had planned with the rain but we are excited to have something to help us raise money for the Library. If you know of any events or any place that would be willing for us to set us at to sell sno cones please contact Casey @ 422-1971 or Nicky at the Library.

Thanks to our Volunteers
As with any organization, it all comes down to the volunteers. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to accomplish anything! We have done great things these past 5 years, and it has all been made possible by the hard work of all of our volunteers. Here’s to the next 5 years, and the things we will accomplish next! Library Expansion Fund
Well, this year we added $2516.04 to our expansion fund. This doubles what we started with this year. When this account matures in November we will have over $5143.43. That is very awesome. We are very excited to be adding to this account to get closer to getting us a bigger space for our great Library.

It’s your one-stop source for all sorts of information including the library’s hours, a calendar of upcoming events, new items at the library, and so much more! We would love to add reviews, favorite things you like at the Library or even your favorite recipes you would like to share with others. If you would like to add something please let Nicky at the Library know.

Our Next Meeting
We meet the third Thursday of each month. Our meetings are open to all members and generally last an hour. We will be discussing lots of the things at the next few meetings including the 2nd annual BBQ night, which will be in August. Also our 3rd annual Italian Night in September.

Reading Clubs
The Washington county Library System is offering free workshops for grades 5 and up as part of the Summer Reading Program at the Library.
The next workshop will be Tuesday, July 18th from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
It’s time to learn about cooking with herbs!
This workshop you will get to grind, smell and taste various herbs, as well as experimenting with some great recipes. Find out how people have historically used herbs in cooking and as medicine. For more information contact the Library.

Imagine, Create, Participate!
For grades K-6 the Library is offering art, music, and storytelling workshops will make this summer to remember. Puppet shows, concerts and special speakers are scheduled at various libraries though out the summer. All activities are free of charge. Join us Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. This program is still running through July 23rd. There is still plenty of time come and have some fun.

Disc Cleaning Program
In addition to protecting the investment of CD’s/DVD’s in the Library’s collection, we are starting to see some of the Libraries in the County system take advantage of our disc cleaning program and are sending disc over for us to clean. This past year cleaning discs raised over $100, and don’t forget that this service is open to FOLL members as well.

2009 Membership Drive
We are well under way in our 09’ membership drive, but are not there yet. As of now we are at 74.90% of our membership goal. If there is an asterisk beside your name on the mailing label, that means we have not received your 09 membership yet. Your continued support will ensure that Nicky has the resources to maintain the current level of services our library provides to our community.

Expansion Fund
At our March meeting, a motion was approved to go ahead and allocate $2000.00 to increase our expansion fund to a total of $4555.24. Since a large portion of our year-end disbursements from the past two years has been going into the expansion fund anyway; we decided to go ahead and invest the funds now to 1.) Lock in the funds before rates get any lower, and 2.) go ahead and start earning interest now instead of 3 months down the road. As it stands our expansion consist of a CD at Signature Bank earning 3.50% with a current balance of $2555.24 and a maturity date of September 26, 09. The new account at Library Bank is earning 3.25% and a maturity date of November 2009.

Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be Thursday April 16th at 7:00pm at the Library. We will be finalizing our plans for the upcoming plant pre-sale and Books, Blooms, and Bake sale.

Plant Pre-Sale
It’s time once again for our annual Plant Pre-Sale! With prices on the rise everywhere you look, we are pleased to let you know that our prices have not increased! Just in time for Mother’s Day, you will find the same wide variety of plants and colors you’ve come to expect at the Foll Plant Pre-Sale. Your order form is included in this mailing, and needs to be turned in to the Library by April 23, 09. For questions or more information call Stephaine @ 824-3747 or Nicky @ 824-3294. The annual Books, Blooms and Bake Sale is almost upon us! Mark your calendars now for May 1st and 2nd. If you were not at the meeting last week, here is a few things that you missed. We are selling soup jars again this year. They are only $5.00 and are at the Library now. These would be great last minute gifts for co-workers, teachers or even stocking stuffers for Mom or Grandma. We will be hosting a cookie sampling event sometime in Feburary. It will kind of like the chocolate sampling they have at the mall every year. Details are still to come on that. We will be discussing that more at our January meeting. If you have any ideas please come and share. Our next meeting will be January 15th at 7:00. Mark your calendars to attend.

The friends also have a few t-shirst, toat bags, and lanyards for sale as well. T-shirts are only $6.00 and they say Friends of the Lincoln Library, toat bags are $1.50 and also say FOLL. These are great for carring your library books. The Lanyard are $2.50. These are great for keys, or even your library card. If you would like to purchase one, see Nikki or Sandy at the Library.

Italian Family Fun Night was a huge success. We made $2094.54. That is several hundred more than we made last year. The auction went well, the food was great, and the kids had fun playing games. We would like to thank everyone who donated items for baskets, desserts, cooking, or even their time to help at the event. Our events could be possible without the volunteers. Beyond The Haunted House

If you are too old for haunted houses, but still want to feel that chill down your spine, Join us for our October BOOKTALKERS meeting. This months selections are for everone in grades 5 and up brave enough to walk throught the creaking door, into the dark room of the unknown. We'll be waiting for you there at the Lincoln Public Library on Monday, October 13th, at 4:00 p.m. Great books, open discussions, games, and snacks will be provided.

2nd Annual Italian Family Fun Night and Silent Auction!

When we first started talking about the Italian Family Fun Night and Silent Auction last year, we had no idea what to expect. After all the dust settled, and all was said and done, it ended up being our most successful fundraiser ever! Every single item received bids and was sold, the kids seemed to have a good time, and we heard constantly how good the food was.

Well now we are getting ready for the 2nd annual installment of this event, and it is shaping up to be bigger and better than last year! We have more games and activities planned for the kids, including the very popular cake walk. We having been collecting donations, and already have hundreds of dollars more in donations than we did last year, and we still do not have it all yet!

Some of the baskets and items we will have for auction this year include: Children's baskets, a kitchen basket, a gardener's basket, a pet lover's basket, movie night baskets, Family fun Night baskets, car wash baskets, razorback basket(s), a toolbox basket, Silver Dollar City Passes, and food coupons and certificates from restaurants such as: TGI Fridays, Colton's, Lou Lou's Fish Shack, Noodles, Grubs, Hog Haus Brewery, McAlister's, Firehouse Subs, Pizza Hut, Golden Corral. There is much, much more to bid on, so make sure you don't miss out!!

The 2nd Annual Italian Family Fun Night and Silent Auction will be September 27th, Tickets will be $5.50 / $3.50 at the door and $5/$3 in advance. Stay Tuned for more info to come!

Vanished book club for grades 5 and up

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to just disappear? Who would try to find you? What would you do to try to stay hidden or to be found? Come to the September meeting of our BOOKTALKERS discussion group and discover some great books about people who vanish. Maybe they plan their disapperance. Mayeb they have to leave in a hurry and really don't want to go. Either way, someone wants to know where they have gone.
If you enjoy solving mysteries and talking about books with your friends, join us at the Library on Monday September 15th at 4:00 p.m. No fees, and reservations are not required. Just bring a friend and have fun! Booktalkers is a book club sponsored by the Washington County Library System.

BBQ Night

Our BBQ night fundraiser was another big sucess. We made just over $540.00. The food was great. (Thanks Gene for cooking for us) Everything was so great that we had to close down early because we had ran out of food. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported FOLL. Also we wanted to say Thank You to everyone who made a dessert or came to work the BBQ. We could not do our fundraisers with out you!!

CD and DVD Cleaning and Repairs

We are happy to announce a new benefit to becoming a member of the Friends of the Lincoln Library! We will begin offering the Digital Media Repair Program to members of FOLL, in addition to the affiliate branches of the WCLS.

If you've got discs that are smudged, have fingerprints, scratches, or skip when you play them, then let us fix them for you! Our Machine uses a state-of-the-art, non-abrasive method to remove the problems listed above, and return your discs to optimal quality.

We can clean and repair CD's, DVD's, HD DVD's, Blu Ray DVD's, Video Game Discs (including 3" Game Cube games), and computer software and data discs.

The cost is $2 per disc (compared to $2.50 and $3 at other places), and we will offer a Frequent Cleaner Program, in which we will clean every 11th disc for free!

August Recipe of the Month

If you missed the meeting last night, you missed a great dessert! Stephanie made a Frozen Creamsicle Cake and it was like eating a creamsicle pop with a fork. Here's the recipe:

16 low-fat vanilla wafers, finely ground in a food processor
2 teaspoons finely grated orange zest
2 teaspoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1 quart orange sorbet, slightly softened
1 quart vanilla ice cream

Line a 3.5 by 7.5 inch loaf pan with a double layer of plastic wrap or parchment paper, allowing a few inches of overhang along the sides. Stir together cookie crumbs, zest, butter, and corn syrup in a small bowl, then press into bottom of loaf pan. Spread sorbet evenly over crumb crust and freeze 30 minutes to harden. While sorbet is freezing, slightly soften ice cream. Spread evenly over sorbet and freeze, covered with plastic wrap, until firm, at least 2 hours. Using plastic wrap as an aid, lift frozen cake out of pan, then peel off plastic. Let stand 5 minutes to soften, cut and serve.

Last night, we finalized plans for our first ever FOLL Summer BBQ Cookout. I don't know about anyone else, but I am starting to get really hungry thinking about it! In addition to the brisket we will be smoking, we will also be serving smoked sausage and hot dogs to make sure we have something for everyone. The desserts will all be home-made by our members and are sure to be delicious. You can dine in, or take out; it'll be a great meal either way! So make plans to come out and support the library, and feed your family at the same time.

Anime and Manga Club Reads Again!

The Anima and Manga Club is back after summer vacation!

The Lincoln Library hosts the Anime and Manga Club
This group, ages 12-18, share a common like: Anime & Manga!*
Our next meeting is Tuesday, August 12 from 7-8 at the library.

Our topic is sushi, which we will be discussing and sampling. As always, students are welcome to bring their own art and writing to share with the group. A slide-show movie will also be shown.

Public Access Computer Unavailable

Metamorphosis was the county-wide summer teen program and consisted of 3 meetings over the course of the summer. Abigail participated in all 3 meetings, and will now have a shirt to show for it. Lincoln Public Library has gone WI-FI!!!!

We are happy to announce that the Lincoln Public Library is now a Wi-Fi hot spot! For all you people out there who aren't as technically savvy, this basically means that you can access the internet from your computer without any wires by using a wireless card. So, bring your laptop, bring your wireless card, and come surf the web while you hang out at the library!

Just Getting Started

Well, this is our first post on our first attempt at taking our local organization and library global! Our organization has always been known for being a trend-setter for the libraries in our county-wide library system. We're at it again!

This idea started as a way for the Friends of the Lincoln Library, more affectionately known as FOLL, to save on our operating expenses by offering an email version of our newsletters. Now, not only did we establish that, but we also have a presence on the web; albeit we are still short of our own web site. As we continue to grow, and as the world continues to shift toward the internet, that may be the next step.

We envision this to be a tool to accomplish a number of things. First, we can now reach people that would otherwise be way outside of our circle of friends. Second, we have an easy, and accessible method of reaching our members with important information concerning the group. We also have discussed the option of opening up this forum to some of our other members for member submissions. This will also allow for discussion between friends and the rest of the world on any number of topics.

Some features we have already added to the page are: Basic information, new releases at the library, a link to our page in the county wide library site, membership information. But like the title says, We are JUST GETTING STARTED!! This is the beginning, not the end. so check back often, leave us some comments, start a discussion, and get involved.
